Democrats Denounce Trump After He Suggests They Should Face Execution

Lawmakers from the Democratic party demonstrated anger after the ex-president charged a contingent of Democratic legislators of being "betrayers" and declared they should be taken into custody and punished "by death" following their release of a contentious video.

The Recording That Sparked the Dispute

The recorded message, published on Tuesday, showcases six Democratic lawmakers who formerly worked in military or security positions.

"Similar to us, you all made an pledge to defend and support this founding document," the officials declared in the 90-second video. "Currently, the dangers to our democratic foundation aren't just from foreign nations, but from right here at home. Our laws are unambiguous, you can reject illegal orders, you can decline improper directives, you should refuse unlawful commands. No one has to follow orders that violate the statutes or our constitution."

Trump's Angry Response

The clip reportedly trigger a heated response from the former president.

On later in the week, Trump published on his social media platform: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these traitors to our United States should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate publication, he declared: "This represents really bad, and Harmful to our United States. Their statements cannot be allowed to persist. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a third post, he added: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also reposted a declaration that said: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Opposition Leaders Respond

Following Trump's statements on that day, House Democratic leader published a combined declaration censuring the remarks.

"Partisan aggression has no place in this nation," they declared. "Elected officials who appeared in the video all worked our country with tremendous loyalty and excellence. We unequivocally censure Donald Trump's offensive and risky threats of violence against elected officials, and urge Republican lawmakers to strongly do the same."

The party representatives also stated that they had been in touch with protective services "to ensure the protection of these representatives and their loved ones."

"Donald Trump must without delay take down these extreme social media posts and retract his dangerous rhetoric before he leads to violence," the announcement added.

Officials' Firm Response

The lawmakers who were featured in the video also published a declaration.

"We identify as veterans and national security professionals who care for this United States and made an pledge to protect and defend the founding document of the United States," they declared. "This commitment is permanent, and we intend to keep it. No warning, pressure, or call for violence will deter us from that fundamental obligation."

"The significant point is that the president considers it punishable by execution for us to repeat the law," they continued. "Armed forces members should understand that we have their backs as they fulfill their oath to the national charter and duty to obey only lawful orders. It is not only the correct thing to do, but also our obligation."

They added: "The entire nation must join forces and censure the president's requests for our death and political violence. This is a moment for principled stance."

More Political Responses

The Senate Democratic leader also censured Trump's statements and shared on online networks: "Let's be crystal clear: the ex-commander in chief is demanding the death of elected officials."

He stated: "This represents an outright THREAT. Each congressional member, every Representative, every American – regardless of party – should condemn this immediately and absolutely."

The Conservative official defended Trump's assertion that the Democrats had engaged in "sedition", labeling the video as "highly unsuitable", adding: "It is very harmful, you have leading members of the government advising soldiers to defy commands, I think that is historic in US history."

The Conservative representative also according to sources told media outlets that in what he reviewed of Trump's posts, Trump was "describing the violation of rebellion" but that "lawyers have to examine the language and establish all that."

Executive Branch Reaction

During a executive branch meeting on that day, when questioned by a media member, "Is the president want to kill congressional representatives?", the administration spokesperson answered: "Certainly not."

"Let's be clear about what the president is addressing," the official declared. "There are active officials of the American legislature who worked together to arrange a video message to members of the US military, to current military personnel urging them to defy the president's legal commands."

She said: "The sanctity of our armed forces depends on the command structure, and if that system is broken, it can result in casualties, it can cause confusion, and precisely what these elected officials ... are essentially supporting."
