Iran Reports Strike on US Base in Bahrain, During Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations across the region in retaliation for a significant and continuing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any impact is unclear and the United States has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - stated they have shot down incoming projectiles in their air space.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
IRGC Statement
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on the Islamic Republic launched by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That US-Israeli operation - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on locations associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the projectiles with high efficiency and destroyed a several projectiles," it added.
The statement noted debris fell on a populated district in the capital, resulting in some material damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
