Similar to bad weather tore through the northern region the night before, City blew Manchester United away at the their home ground. It was a convincing 3-0 victory for their manager's side owing to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a result that firmly established their title credentials as they strengthened their standing at the top of the table.

Successive Losses for Manchester United

This result represented successive WSL setbacks for the United manager's side for the first time since spring 2024, leaving them a sizable gap off the top team with their championship aspirations hanging by a thread.

United’s capability to balance league and continental football with a small squad has been a widely debated subject since they qualified for the European competition. Reviewing the calendar, it always felt like this was the week that would fully examine this capability. Regrettably for the visitors, they looked tired throughout, the landmark win against the French side clearly having taken a toll.

Tactical Shifts

Her crosses were posing a threat and led to an attempt for Hasegawa that Anna Sandberg kicked off the line.

Final Period

The clearest adjustment came from Skinner at the half-time as Melvine Malard was introduced for Terland but by this time it was futile to shift the momentum of the game. Former Manchester City player Jess Park came most likely to score, rattling the post, but the visitors were offensively poor and did not manage to record a one shot on goal.

The hosts, on the other hand, could have added to their lead when a superb Miedema through ball sent Bunny Shaw away only for her to fluff her lines but it was insignificant to the hosts. Having failed to defeat any team who ended above them the previous campaign, the manager's side now have victories against Arsenal and United to put them in a commanding standing after nine games.
