The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at the judicial center on the end of the week.

Yet, he denied a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old child.

The accused was held in detention ahead of a subsequent court date on late November.

'Sweet game'

Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, outlined Ruben's offending to the court.

She said his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a summer program which he operated.

Ruben conducted a "treat game" with the minors, the legal counsel stated, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to consume candy "as quickly as they can".

She informed the proceedings the defendant had engaged in this activity with the young males "over an extended period", and minors had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.

She explained Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had concerns in recently.

The legal representative continued: "In the summer" his stepson had suspicions about what was going on, with valid cause.

"They chose" to investigate in the man's possessions."

The prosecutor said items including infant oil, Vaseline and medical needles were found, and his family member contacted the police about his suspicions.

She stated Ruben continued to conduct the "treat game" with six youngsters that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the following morning.

"The police had not responded by that point," she added.

The police watchdog, the police conduct office, previously told that it was examining the police response of the situation.

The prosecutor said the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the family member notified the authorities once more.

She stated the man then conducted the "treat game" in a area of five children.
