A prominent South African media personality and entertainer has been fatally gunned down in the country's largest city Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a country grappling with entrenched crime.

Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was attacked in the central business district on the afternoon of Tuesday.

Officials stated the 40-year-old entertainer was approached by three individuals, one of whom opened fire on him before escaping on foot.

The reason of the shooting remains unclear and no suspects have been apprehended have been made, as per the official statement.

How It Happened

Law enforcement revealed that Stock was attacked as he was departing from a premises near the city center landmark.

He had spent several hours at the building overseeing the setup of safety equipment, which had been reportedly taken over by unidentified individuals, it was reported.

"Authorities believe the man was confronted by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they opened fire at him before escaping on foot," a police statement stated.

Security camera video showed a suspect with dreadlocked hair and clad in what appeared to be a security uniform firing shots on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ sought to escape after he was hit but fell down a short distance away.

Police added that Stock had an gun that was not fired and nothing was taken during the incident.

Crucial forensic evidence, like bullet casings, were found at the crime scene.

Officials are asking eyewitnesses who may have seen the suspects to contact them.

"Our information indicates they covered significant ground after the attack, and police have been tracking them to determine their destination," added an official.

His sister, Nicole Stock, stated the family was struggling to come to terms with the loss.

"I am in shock. I cannot express the pain," were her words.
